We seem to be having an outbreak of Measles here. Why.....because parents got the idea it was cool not to vaccinate their children. Measles were eradicated 15 years ago from here. Why would conscientious parents deny this protection to their children? Measles can cause Pneumonia, Blindness and even Death. Do you really want to take this chance with your children's lives? Wake up people, Measles are preventable!!
Do the right thing and vaccinate your children, it's not cool to play roulette with their lives.

Cafe Bengali........

If you have not heard of Cafe Bengali, you must give it a try. On these frigid evenings, nothing is better than a nice mug of Cafe Bengali. If you add just a bit of Amaretto, it is even better. I mean, chocolate ice cream, coffee, Amaretto and whip cream. What is not to like!!!
Cafe Bengali
3/4 cup heavy whipping cream
1 tablespoon sugar
1 pint chocolate ice cream
4 cups freshly brewed coffee, hot
Freshly grated nutmeg, for garnish
Combine the cream and sugar in a chilled metal bowl. Using a whisk or hand mixer, whip the cream until soft peaks form. Refrigerate until ready to use.
Set up four coffee mugs. Add two scoops of ice cream to each. Pour 1 cup coffee into each. Top with a scoop of the whipped cream and garnish with nutmeg. Serve immediately.
Note: If you wish, a bit of Amaretto makes this divine! If you like; you can even garnish with some of those leftover candy canes from the holidays. It's your mug of Cafe Bengali so garnish it the way you like it.

Gruyere Cheese Straws..........

There are still a few more "get-togethers" going on and this is a simple and easy snack. Give it a try and see if you don't agree with me.
Gruyere Cheese Straws
Sprinkle 1 cup of Gruyere grated cheese on your counter or pastry film, top with a sheet of thawed puff pastry. Sprinkle 1 more cup of Gruyere cheese, mixed with 2 tsp dry mustard on top of the puff pastry. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Roll out the puff pastry to a 12 inch square. Cut into 1 inch strips and twist each strip 2-3 times and transfer to a parchment paper lined sheet. Bake at 375F until puffed and browned in spots, 15 to 18 minutes. To serve, just put in a clear glass or on a tray. Be sure to make plenty as these will go very quickly.
